Frequently asked questions
Getting started
Do I need a medical cannabis card to shop at Mallard Club?
Yes. Kentucky law requires a valid registry ID card for every purchase. We check it every visit.
What conditions qualify in Kentucky?
The statute names six: any type or form of cancer; chronic, severe or debilitating pain; epilepsy or another intractable seizure disorder; multiple sclerosis, muscle spasms or spasticity; chronic nausea or cyclical vomiting syndrome; and post-traumatic stress disorder. Regulation adds fifteen more by name, among them ALS, Parkinson's, Crohn's, ulcerative colitis, sickle cell anemia, neuropathies, severe arthritis, fibromyalgia, HIV, AIDS, glaucoma and terminal illness. The Office of Medical Cannabis publishes the current list and that's the one to go by.
How do I get a card?
Get a written certification from an authorized practitioner, then apply through the Team Kentucky Office of Medical Cannabis portal. The application fee is $25. Our First-Time Patients page walks through all five steps.
How long does it take?
That depends on your practitioner and the state's processing time. We don't control either one and we'd rather not guess.
Can Mallard Club certify me or write my recommendation?
No. We're a dispensary, not a medical practice. Certification comes from a practitioner registered with the state.
Is there help if I can't afford the certification?
The Kentucky Cannabis Industry Alliance runs low-cost patient drives around the state. Check with them for current dates and locations.
Your card
What do I bring to the dispensary?
Your Kentucky registry ID card and a government-issued photo ID. Both, every visit. We're required to check the card against the state system and match the photo ID to it before every sale.
I'm a caregiver. What do I bring?
Your own designated caregiver card and your photo ID. Caregivers must be Kentucky residents, 21 or older, and can assist up to three patients at a time.
Can someone under 18 be a patient?
Yes. Kentucky issues a minor qualified patient card. It requires a diagnosis of the qualifying condition from a second practitioner, written consent from a parent or legal guardian, and that parent or guardian registered as the designated caregiver. Vaping products are 21 and over.
My card expired. Can I still shop?
No. An expired card can't be accepted. Cards are valid for one year unless your practitioner set an earlier date. Renewal goes back through your practitioner and the state portal.
I have a card from another state. Can I shop here?
Kentucky has a Visiting Qualified Patient card type for registry holders from other state programs. You'd need to register through the Kentucky portal first. The state's site is the authority on what's required.

Do you have to check my ID every time?

How long will my first visit take?
Give yourself twenty minutes. We'd rather answer your questions than rush you out.
Shopping and payment
Can I order online?
Yes. Browse the full menu, place your order, and pick it up at the counter.
Does the menu show real stock?
It updates in real time. If it's listed, we have it, though popular items move fast.
How do I pay?
Debit cards or cash. There's an ATM on site if you need it.
Is there a purchase limit?
Yes. Kentucky sets a rolling supply limit and we're required to check the state system before every sale, so we'll tell you where you stand before you check out.
Can I return something?
Kentucky doesn't allow returns or exchanges because a product wasn't what you expected. If something is defective, like a cartridge that leaks or a battery that won't fire, bring it back with your receipt. We'll review it with the manufacturer and go from there.
Do you offer any discounts?
Yes. Veterans, seniors, first-time patients, and anyone working at a licensed Kentucky cannabis business all get 10% off, every day. There is no code to enter and nothing to sign up for. Bring your ID or documentation when you pick up and we will apply it.
Can I combine discounts?
No. Discounts are applied at checkout and cannot be stacked. You will always be given the best discount you qualify for.
Products and testing
Where do your products come from?
Kentucky-licensed cultivators and processors, all within the state's medical cannabis program.
Is everything tested?
Yes. Kentucky requires laboratory testing before product reaches a dispensary. Every package is labeled with its contents and testing information.
Can I see a certificate of analysis?
Ask at the counter and we'll pull it up.
What should I buy?
That's a conversation with your practitioner. What we can do is explain what each product is, how it's made, and what the label tells you.
What forms do you carry?
Flower, vapes, edibles, concentrates, tinctures and capsules, and topicals. What's in stock changes, so check the menu.
The Club
What is The Club?
Our patient loyalty program. Members earn on purchases and hear about restocks and patient drive dates first.
What does it cost to join?
Nothing.
Legal and safety
Is medical cannabis legal in Kentucky?
Yes, under KRS Chapter 218B, for registered cardholders. It remains illegal under federal law.
Can I take it across state lines?
No. Your Kentucky card is valid in Kentucky only. Medical cannabis can't leave the Commonwealth, and crossing a state line with it can carry criminal penalties.
Can I drive after using medical cannabis?
No. Driving under the influence is illegal in Kentucky regardless of your card.
How should I store it at home?
In the original container it came in, out of reach of children and pets. Kentucky requires the original container any time it's outside your home, and in a vehicle it has to be out of the driver's reach in a container with a two-step opening.
Who regulates all this?
The Office of Medical Cannabis, under the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services.
Still have questions?
The Commonwealth publishes the official program rules, forms, and updates. If anything on this page disagrees with the state's site, the state is right.
